Who Administrates this list and how can the community help save this list from the noise

It is very clear that this list has been under a incredibly heavy
noise assault lately.
What if anything can people on this list do to help combat this issue?

Does anyone have server access to the MTA that routes the list traffic?
Do spam definitions need to be updated/re scored?

It would be a real shame to see this list die from worthless noise.

If we need to move to a different server then let’s at least start the
discussion.

Good luck, I doubt anyone is paying attention. I have seen numerous
requests from other participants to be removed from the list, and it has
not happened.

No one is paying controlling to the list.

Well, the admins aren’t going to unsubscribe people who can’t be
bothered to figure out how to do it themselves. But they should
definitely be paying attention to spammers like these gobshites and do
something.

If you have seen these requests then they were not directed to the
management address but to the list itself - or you are the
administrator. :slight_smile:

I wouldn’t be too sure of that.

Okay. This is good info. I know the software behind ruby-form is
unmaintained source code wise.
This merely shifts the question then. What can the community do, if
anything, to limit the spam on ruby-form.
Also, I thought it was announced a year or so ago that this relay would
be
broken “soon”. What happened?

that was usenet, and it was severed.

It’s very simple. Every post has a delete button. You just need to give
some trustworthy people rights to delete.

Have you tried mailing [email protected] with “unsubscribe”
as message body? Because that’s the correct way, and I have a feeling
you didn’t try it (since you’re still subscribed, apparently).

The last time I tried it I got the prompt to confirm my unsubscribe, and
confirmation never worked:
I just got some complains about illegal command.

Do we have access to the source code of Ruby Forum?

And are we able to change the respective code?

The solution would be quite trivial, I mean, just add the IPs and block
them into a list. Or just add a timer before a new post can be done…

The current line noise is making discussions very hard. I myself am
twiddling thumbs and doing other things mostly, until there is a way to
keep this spam away … :frowning:

Besides, who is doing this spamming? It does not seem to have any
positive contribution I can see (unlike fishing spam), it is just
annoying.

Not totally on topic, but I’ve always been puzzled by some of the
wording in the welcome message sent by the server upon beginning
subscription:

   # help

or
help

Does this mean you can send either “# help” or just “help” as the body
of the email? And why does it list # help/help once, and then
immediately afterward say “#help or help” ? Does the second
“paragraph” exist to clarify the first? (It doesn’t.)
