Try this:
require ‘win32ole’
word = WIN32OLE.new(‘word.application’)
file = ‘c:/work/test.doc’
doc = word.documents.open(file,‘ReadOnly’ => true)
page = doc.ComputeStatistics(2) # wdStatisticPages = 2
word.activedocument.close(false)
word.quit
puts page
