Radiant CMS Documentation

Hi Everyone,

In the past couple of weeks, there has been some talk about Radiant CMS
documentation. One of my earlier posts has been brought up a couple of
times, and I have also sorta volunteered to help coordinate an effort
for this.

Right now, I have about 3 - 4 people who have emailed either the list or
me directly to express their interest. To maximize the time that people
spend on this, I would like to see if it’s possible to come out with a
list of things that have already been written and then see what else is
needed urgently and what can be written in due course.

Also, I think it’s best if different people don’t write about the same
thing.

Here’s what I would like to request from you. Like most Rails things,
there’s a lot of documentation that exists as people’s blog posts.

If you have written anything on your blog that could be taken as being
Radiant documentation (partial or full), please reply to this email or
email me offlist at “tech at onghu.com” so that we have a list of
everything that’s been written for it. Then, we can see what else is
needed or where we need more detail.

[My Articles]

  1. Top level Radiant section: http://notepad.onghu.com/radiant

  2. Hello World with Radiant:
    http://notepad.onghu.com/2007/5/26/hello-world-using-radiant-cms
If you’re as slow at getting started as I can be at 2:45AM and still
insist on trying out Radiant CMS at exactly that time, this small entry
may help you getting around to making your first page with Radiant show
    up.

  3. Showing the date of articles:
    http://notepad.onghu.com/2007/9/10/radiant-cms-showing-the-date-of-articles
An article that explains how to display the date of articles on a site
    powered by Radiant CMS.

Thanks & Best Regards,
Mohit.

I don’t have anything on my blog yet, but I’d like to help.

I’d start by updating the front page of the wiki to reflect what we
want and then have people start filling in from there.

Hi Aaron

Thanks! I’ll add you to the list for now. I’m planning something and
hope to come back with some ideas.

Cheers,
Mohit.

That’s a good idea Aaron. Maybe we could have an “Upcoming Articles”
section so that even if people haven’t written it up yet, they could let
people know that it’s being worked on. Carried further, maybe a
“Requested Articles” section would be in order.

And, on that note, a “Documentation Updates” blog where anyone could
post might be cool. That way when someone edits the wiki, we could all
know about it.

I’m working on a how-to install and skin your first radiant site blog
post. When I get closer to done, I will let ya’ll know.

Great, keep up the good work, Greg!

Hi All,

To be quite honest trying to get Radiant CMS installed and trying to
figure out how it works and find the documentation has been, shall we
say less than smooth.

The more I learn and follow on the mailing list, the more I understand
how elegant and extendible Radiant really is.

So i am offering my help in writing documentation. I’ve looked for the
last 2 hours through http://wiki.radiantcms.org/Documentation and made
sort of a table of content which is attached to my post here, in
openoffice calc of what I think a handbook should look like. If it does
not come through with my post, I have uploaded a copy of the open office
doc on my website:

Let me know if this makes any sense!
