Wordpress versus Radiant

Any opinions about Wordpress versus Radiant? This issue came up
recently in the office and since I’m not familiar with Wordpress much, I
thought it would be better to ask if anyone here has an opinion.

Any comments will be appreciated.

The two are designed for different purposes. It all depends what you
need. Radiant is a very minimalist CMS, while Wordpress has much more
functionality out of the box (most of which can be obtained in Radiant
by using plugins).

Wordperss is also more of a blogging-platform-turned-CMS. So you’ll
probably find that Wordpress isn’t what you want unless you’re running
a blog. However, I’ve seen it used for normal websites as well.

What are your specific needs? I’d say that you probably want Wordpress
if you need a lot of user interaction and feedback (comments and the
like), and Radiant if you want a more static website.

Of course, this does not cover the technical differences which are
substantial. I don’t know if this is something you are interested in,
but if so, let us know.

As from my experience - wp is good for any small blog/website/visit card
site, until you dont use more than 5-7 plugins, and you dont have more
than ~10-20 pages. So, if you are sure, that your site will not grow
much a next couple of years, and still will use the same basic wp
functionalty - in such usage wp is the best. The admin interface also is
very good. I think it is the best for small sites and could serve as an
role model.

More growing - more problems, and I could`nt recommend that for any real
site with more than 50 visitors per day for example without serious code
refactoring for your particular needs. I had some stories from my
friends )

Hi Mohit,

for a personal blog I definitely would use WordPress. For more complex
site I would check if any other CMS is good for that. For a community
site maybe I would use Drupal (and I would ask about Joomla! which I
don’t really know).
For some easy static pages Sinatra with Haml is simply the best.
Radiant and its plugins are also good for everything, just need more
knowledge and more customasation.

If the site will grow in the future, or have the possibility to grow -
I would definitely avoid WordPress! Later will cause headaache. Maybe
others says it’s possible to use it as a full-featured CMS, but I’m
sure other choises are much better.
